NewScientist: Political backlash to geoengineering begins

Article on the SPICE project.

"Political opposition to technologies that could artificially cool the planet is in full swing. A field test of geoengineering, planned for October in Sculthorpe, UK, has been postponed for six months. Meanwhile, the European Parliament has passed a resolution that "expresses its opposition to proposals for large scale geoengineering"."

SPICE-Project

The project will investigate the feasibility of one so-called geoengineering
technique: the idea of simulating natural processes that release small particles
into the stratosphere, which then reflect a few percent of incoming solar
radiation, with the effect of cooling the Earth with relative speed.
